About

Dr. Andrea Downie

Clinical Neuropsychologist

A clinical neuropsychologist is a psychologist with specialized training in how the brain and behavior are related. A child, or pediatric, clinical neuropsychologist has specialized knowledge about how medical conditions and brain injuries affect thinking, learning and behaviour in children and adolescents.

My clinical interests include helping families better understand the academic and cognitive challenges that sometimes accompany a medical condition.  I have over 20 years of experience working in children’s hospitals with children and adolescents who have been treated for a variety of medical diagnoses including epilepsy, prematurity, childhood cancer, acquired brain injury, PKU, as well as genetic and developmental conditions. I have experience collaborating and providing consultation to school systems (elementary, high school, and post-secondary).

I have published in peer-reviewed scientific journals on a variety of topics and I am involved in research designed to help predict and remediate neuropsychological and psychosocial late effects in childhood cancer.

I am actively engaged in a number of teaching activities, including supervision of psychology practicum students and residents, as well as seminar presentations at the London Clinical Psychology Residency Consortium and the University of Western Ontario. I am an adjunct professor in the Department of Pediatrics, Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry, the Department of Psychology, Western University, and the Department of Psychology, University of Windsor.
